It’s said that any publicity is good publicity, but is that the case when you’re talking about highly supportive affordable housing?
The House of Hope opened in the fall of 2023 as a partnership between London Cares and London Health Sciences Centre operating a highly supportive housing project serving London’s highest need, chronically unhoused citizens. The partners have reported outstanding results in helping people improve their health while anchoring into stable housing.
House of Hope has been touted as a highly successful project that emerged from London’s Whole of Community Response. In spite of its success, the future of the project is not secure as the initial pilot project phase is winding down and new funding has not yet been secured. The project has been the subject of several news stories and there has been (and continues to be) extensive efforts to stabilize the project and the funding.
In my inaugural London Ontario Online News - “Steve’s Reflection”, I talk about The House of Hope and the impacts that arise when a supportive housing project goes through this level of tumult - impacts on residents, other vulnerable citizens and ultimately on our community if we lose these vital services.
